Potato gateau recipe with salami and smoked provola cheese

The term gateau comes from the French word, meaning cake. A unique, rustic and highly flavorsome main course, with the typical products of Calabrian gastronomy: salami and smoked provola cheese.

To enjoy the recipe, you can add eggplant and dried tomatoes.

The ingredients to prepare potato gateau recipe with salami and smoked provola cheese

  • 2 kg Potatoes
  • 250 g Salami
  • 250 g smoked provola cheese
  • Aubergine fillets to taste
  • 200 dried tomatoes
  • 4 eggs
  • 100 g Grana Padano DOP (to be grated)
  • 20g Butter
  • Lemon flavored salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Breadcrumbs to taste
  • Butter to taste

How to prepare potato gateau recipe with salami and smoked provola cheese

Start boiling the potatoes in a large pot and, peel and mash them in a bowl.

At the same time, cut the salami and the smoked provola cheese.

Add the softened butter cut into small pieces, the grated cheese, the eggs,Lemon flavored salt and pepper to taste, and mix well with a fork.

Sprinkle the pan with the breadcrumbs and start lining the pan with a first layer of creamed potatoes, until the entire surface is covered. Once finished, create a layer of salami and one of smoked provola cheese.

Once finished, spread another layer of creamed potatoes and continue with another layer of aubergine fillets strips and dried tomatoes.

Alternate the layers until you run out of ingredients.

Bake at 180° in a preheated static oven for the first 20 minutes. Once ready, unmold and serve the potato gateau hot, accompanying the dish with an intense Cirò Classico Red Wine.
